The MD2 (Message-Digest) algorithm is an encryption hash function developed by Ronald Rivest. This algorithm is optimized for 8-bit computers.

What is MD2?

Message Digest 2 is a hash function used in encryption. Created in 1989 by Ronald Rivest, it is byte-oriented and creates a 128-bit hash value with the help of a message of arbitrary length. Message Digest 2 was mostly developed for use with digital signature applications, which required a large, secure, compressed file to sign a private key. It is also used in public key infrastructures, but it is not used because it takes a long time to calculate and the algorithm is no longer secure.
